24 December 2006 We received ₤345 from Emmanuel Church back in September. We were not able to do much in October and November due to various reasons. During December we finally started working on how we would spend the funds and get the goods to Meulaboh. Pak Dadek had already requested us to provide cake making equipment to allow widows to bake and then sell cakes for a living. We found a courier who started running a service to Aceh, both to Meulaboh and Banda Aceh. He offered us 850,000 Rupiah per cubic metre to Meulaboh. At the start of December Novi went shopping and bought some mixers. Here is the result:
She bought in total 27 mixers of various types and sizes. Here is one of the National mixers that we got:
One of Ronan's teachers, Miss Dora, donated some cake tins to go with the mixers.
We got the mixers packed up so we could take them to the courier:
Ready to go...
Unfortunately until now we have not been able to send off the cake making equipment as the courier is unable to go there. North Sumatra and Aceh has experienced heavy flooding over the last few weeks and some parts are three metres deep in water. The latest news yesterday is that in one village alone over 70 people are missing. We're in contact with the courier and as soon as the flood recedes and the road becomes passible, we'll send everything off.
